Drain Mapping

Old drains and new homeowners

Most homeowners don’t know much about the existing drainage systems. They were installed by previous homeowners and their locations are not shown on the as builts. This is why mapping the drain system is a part of our drain cleaning and inspection service.

Footing drains and basement flooding

Before listening to a salesman sell you a project you may not need, do you know if your footing drains are clogged? Do you know if you even have foundation drainage? Mapping the drain system is often the first step in addressing foundation water issues.

Finding stormwater discharge locations

Do you know where the downspout drain system discharges? Do your footing drains run through the crawl space? Is the catch basin discharging against the foundation? Is the basement leaking caused by a bad downspout drain?

Does the drain system connect to the sanitary or storm sewer, does it daylight over the slope, does it run into an infiltration pit? Our drainage mapping and drain locating service can answer these questions.

Flooded Yards

We’ve been called out to address flooding yards, only to find that the catch basin that’s right next to the foundation doesn’t collect water, but discharges all the rainwater water collected from the roof.

We are always finding drainage pits and infiltration trenches that weren’t installed correctly, that the homeowners didn’t know they had. Before you just hire someone to install some yard drainage or a french drain, make sure that your existing systems are causing the problems.

The drain mapping process

The drain mapping process is quick, easy, and part of our inspection service. Our drain camera has a built in Sonde at its head, which puts out a frequency at 512 hertz. This field is detected above ground with a utility locator.

The existing drainage system can be spray painted on the ground or drawn up as an as built.
