Crawl space Drainage
Drainage First
Before considering crawl space encapsulation or insulation, any water problems in the crawl space must be addressed. Most of the time we prefer to solve water problems from the exterior, but sometimes additional drainage is needed from inside the footprint.
Sump Pumps
The most common way of moving water out of a craw space is through a sump pump. The perforated basin is set into the ground, lowering the local water table.
Drainage lines
A sump pump by itself is usually not enough to manage all the water in a crawlspace. Drain lines need to be installed to collect water from within the footprint and to channel water to the sump. These drain lines are typically shallow, and a mix of natural and synthetic aggregate can be used.
